Mother\’s Day is a public holiday in North Korea, and it is observed on November 16 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the first National Meeting of Mothers in 1961 when Kim Il-sung delivered the speech on the Duty of Mothers in the Education of Children.

Mother\’s Day was introduced by Kim Jong-un, Supreme Leader of North Korea, when he came to power and it became a national holiday in 2012 with the designated celebration date of November 16.
