Day of Songun is a public holiday in North Korea, and it is observed on August 25 each year. The holiday commemorates Kim Jong-il\’s inspection of 105th Armored Division on August 25, 1960, with his father Kim Il-sung, which was considered as the beginning of the Songun leadership.
Songun is the military first leader which puts great importance on the army. The Korean People\’s Army has the priorities in the affairs of the state and allocation of resources.
Songun was first introduced during the famine that was the worst economic crisis in the 1990s in North Korea. The government set the military\’s first politics in an attempt to recover the country\’s economy.
