Thanksgiving Day is a public holiday in Saint Lucia, and it is observed on the first Monday in October each year. The holiday is a harvest celebration giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and the bounty of the island.
Saint Lucia is an island country in the Caribbean Sea. Indigenous people inhabited the island for centuries before European arrived in the 16th century. Thanksgiving Day has historical roots from the ancient harvest festivals, which were celebrated in September or October.
In 1660, the French first settled on the island. In the following years, both the French and the British were interested in the island and it changed hands between the two countries many times until 1814 when the British eventually acquired it.
