Pa-Togan Nengminza Sangma, also known as Togan Nengminja\’s Day, is a regional holiday in the state of Meghalaya, India, and it is observed on December 12 each year.
Pa-Togan Nengminza Sangma marks the death anniversary of Pa Togan Sangma, who was a brave warrior in the Garo Hills region. In 1872, British soldiers entered the East Garo Hills area to complete their conquest and pacification of the Garo Hills region. Pa Togan Nengminja and other Garo warriors attacked the British soldiers, however, they suffered heavy losses and Pa Togan Nengminza died on the spot on December 12, 1872, because of their ill-equipped traditional weapons.
